FERRETS AT HEART -- Ferret Rescue, Shelter, & Sanctuary of Franklin, North Carolina

Support our Franklin, North Carolina, mountain ferret rescue

pict of five ferrets having a snackFerrets at Heart is a small ferret rescue, located in the mountains of North Carolina. Our home, Franklin, is on North Carolina's border with Georgia.

Our rescue gathers together abandoned and abused ferrets and provides them with a loving atmosphere, healthy food and living conditions, plenty of exercise and play time, trips outdoors for extra stimulation, and medical care. Ferrets at Heart also attempts ferret education for the humans in our area. Currently, 7 ferrets reside in our shelter. all are permanent residents, due to age, illness, or disability. The responsibility of caring for ferrets with such needs is quite a financial challenge. Help us help them with your donations, or by adopting one of our wonderful furry friends!

mandie in the windowDear ferret friends,

Ferrets at Heart has moved to Franklin, North Carolina, as of the end of July, 2012. Our ferret rescue/shelter/hospice/sanctuary will not be taking in new ferrets until 2013 at the earliest, and we have no ferrets up for adoption. This is due to an outbreak of ECE earlier in the summer of 2012, which swept through all of our current ferret residents. The virus will remain contagious in these ferrets for many months, even though they no longer exhibit symptoms of the wasting disease. Volunteers and staff will be avoiding all contact with other ferret owners and refrain from visiting pet stores during the shedding period of the ECE virus.

In Franklin, our operation will be split between two locations. Our less medically-challenging shelter residents will be housed at an auxiliary location, while our main facility will be devoted to the care of the most ill, injured, or emotionally-needy. Since Mom has been our seamstress for our ferret hammock and bedding store, the store is closing until when/if someone else takes up that position.

Fundraising is and will be a difficult undertaking for the rest of 2012. The ECE virus may be on any items in my home. That is not likely, but risking passing on the virus at all is not permissible by my conscience. This means that we cannot run raffles, auctions, or drawings with the merchandise that we have on hand. Ferrets at Heart will likely be totally dependent on your donations for the rest of this calendar year. Please consider using the PayPal donation button on the left side of every page to send us a gift, or ask for our physical address to mail a check/money order. We gladly accept shipments of ferret supplies or gift cards where those items are sold online.

holly in a vase of sunflowersFor those of you who have aided us through donations of funds or ferret items, through packing up and moving our residence the 600 miles from Huron, Ohio, to Franklin, North Carolina, or who just provided advice and a shoulder to lean on during the last few months, we send to you our gratitude and whole-hearted thanks. Thank you also for your kind words and your prayers during this time of grief over Mom's passing. Maybe she's up there having lots of fun with her grandferrets.

With respect,
